Dentures

What to Expect

2 to 5 appointments

In the initial stages of your denture appointments, Dr. Diaz and the team will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your oral health, discussing your specific needs and the best denture options for you, whether partial or complete dentures.

This will be followed by precise measurements and impressions of your mouth to ensure that your new dentures will fit perfectly and look natural.

After your custom dentures are crafted, you'll have a fitting appointment to make any necessary adjustments for comfort and ensure a proper bite alignment, enhancing both the function and aesthetics of your smile.

Additionally, you'll receive detailed instructions on how to care for your dentures and maintain oral hygiene, along with follow-up appointments to address any adjustments or concerns, ensuring a smooth transition to your new smile.

What are the types of dentures?

COMPLETE DENTURES:

Complete dentures are designed for patients who have lost all their teeth in an arch, either the upper or lower, and rest directly on the gums. They are custom-made to fit the patient's mouth and facial structure, providing a functional and aesthetic replacement for natural teeth.

Types of complete dentures:

  • Conventional: This full removable denture is made and placed in your mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed, which may take several months.

  • Immediate: This removable denture is inserted on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. Your dentist will take measurements and make models of your jaw during a preliminary visit. You don’t have to be without teeth during the healing period, but may need to have the denture relined or remade after your jaw has healed.

  • Overdenture: Sometimes some of your teeth can be saved to preserve your jawbone and provide stability and support for the denture. An overdenture fits over a small number of remaining natural teeth after they have been prepared by your dentist. Implants can serve the same function, too.

PARTIAL DENTURES:

Partial dentures, on the other hand, are suitable for patients who still have some natural teeth remaining. These dentures fill in the spaces created by missing teeth and are usually attached to the natural teeth with metal clasps or precision attachments, helping to prevent the remaining teeth from shifting and maintaining the integrity of the patient's bite and facial shape. Both types of dentures are removable and can be taken out and cleaned.
